Come to Rwanda
For those of you who know me, you know my love for Rwanda is unshakeable. In 2010, I had the opportunity to lead an incredible group of women on a social impact trip to Rwanda—a country I had never been to before. From the moment I stepped off the plane, I remember thinking, “I could live here.” There was a peace that washed over me, one I couldn’t quite explain, but I knew this country was special.
Between 2010 and 2013, I found myself returning to Rwanda at least four or five times a year. Then in 2013, during a visit with my manager, she said something that changed everything: “Adele, there’s something different about you here. There’s a joy in your eyes that shines. I think you should move here and make this your base.” I was stunned—could the words I spoke in 2010 really come true?
So, this “silly girl” went home and declared, “I’m moving to Rwanda for work.” To my surprise, everything seemed to fall into place. Moving to another country, far from my family, took a level of courage I wasn’t sure I had. But I often thought about the courage my mom showed when she moved to the U.S., not knowing anyone. Her bravery changed the trajectory of her life and her siblings’ lives. In a similar way, I drew from her strength, and little did I know that my decision would change the trajectory of mine.
When I look back on my time in Rwanda, my heart is immediately filled with joy. I was able to share this extraordinary country with so many of my loved ones—my parents (twice), my sister, nephew, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Rwanda’s beauty is truly indescribable. Known as the “Switzerland of Africa,” it’s a land of rolling hills, majestic mountains, and hidden waterfalls. This country changed me in ways I could have never imagined. I became more compassionate, more adventurous, more forgiving, more courageous, and more loving. Most importantly, my time in Rwanda became the foundation for starting The JoYOUs Journey.
Rwanda gave me friendships that turned into family and a deeper passion for serving and loving others.
This August, I’m inviting you to experience this incredible country for yourself by joining our social impact trip with Flourish Rwanda. Together, we’ll have the chance to make a difference in the lives of children in need while exploring the breathtaking beauty of Rwanda. From trekking with silverback gorillas to searching for the Big Five on safari, this will be a journey you’ll never forget.
Join me this August in my heaven on earth—Rwanda.
Joyously yours,
Adele
