Magical Morocco
Majestic, Mystical, Mesmerizing, Magical, Mouth Watering and Mysterious are just a few words to describe my trip to Morocco. Join me as I relive my time in this magnificent country and recount the highlights of my trip that took us through the bustling streets of Casablanca, the historic wonders of Rabat, the cultural richness of Fes, the magical Sahara Desert, the unique Erfoud, the cinematic landscapes of Ouarzazate, the majestic Atlas Mountains, the serene beauty of Agafay, and the colorful city of Marrakech.
Our journey began in the vibrant city of Casablanca, a melting pot of modernity and tradition. The awe-inspiring Hassan II Mosque, with its intricate architecture and oceanfront location, left us breathless. We wandered through the bustling markets, indulging in the rich aroma of spices and vibrant colors of traditional textiles. Our time in Casablanca ended at Rick’s Café, a romantic eatery inspired by the café in the 1942 film.
Next on our itinerary was Rabat, the capital city, where historic landmarks such as the Kasbah of the Udayas and the Royal Palace transported us back in time. The blend of traditional Moroccan and French colonial architecture created a captivating atmosphere, offering a glimpse into the nation's diverse history.
Fes welcomed us with open arms, revealing a city steeped in culture and tradition. The UNESCO-listed Medina, a labyrinth of narrow streets and bustling souks, showcased the exquisite craftsmanship of local artisans. The intricate tiles, colorful mosaics, and traditional leather tanneries were a feast for the eyes. You know I came home with a leather jacket! 🧥
Erfoud, known as the Gateway to the Sahara, introduced us to unique landscapes of rocky deserts and fossil-rich terrain. The local cuisine, infused with aromatic spices and flavors, left a lasting impression on our taste buds. Our journey then took an adventurous turn as we ventured into the vast and magical Sahara Desert. The golden dunes stretched as far as the eye could see, providing a surreal backdrop for camel treks and unforgettable sunsets. Spending a night in a desert camp, under a canopy of stars, was a truly enchanting experience.
Next, we traveled to Ouarzazate the Hollywood of Morocco. The dramatic
landscapes, including the famous Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, have been featured in numerous films including Gladiator, scenes from Game of Thrones, Lawerence of Arabia, and many more.
Heading towards the Atlas Mountains, we marveled at the breathtaking scenery. The snow-capped peaks served as a backdrop to authentic Berber villages, where we experienced warm hospitality and learned about traditional mountain life.
Before our final days in Marrakech, we went to the serene desert of Agafay.
The contrasting landscapes of rocky plateaus and tranquil oases provided a peaceful escape. We enjoyed traditional Moroccan hospitality in luxury desert camps, savoring local cuisine under the open sky.
We ended our trip in Marrakech, a kaleidoscope of colors and culture Marrakech, the Red City, captivated us with its vibrant street markets, lively Jemaa el-Fna square, and the iconic Koutoubia Mosque. The intricate architecture of the Bahia Palace and the Saadian Tombs left us in awe, while the souks offered a sensory explosion of colors, scents, and sounds. As someone who recently purchased a home, I was in home décor heaven from the beautiful carpets to the brass lighting features, and the most beautiful dishes with intricate artwork. You know I had to come home with something to showcase in my home!
Throughout our journey, the colors of Morocco painted a vivid tapestry of experiences. From the blue hues of Chefchaouen to the golden sands of the Sahara, every corner of this diverse country was a feast for the senses. The cuisine, a delightful fusion of spices, couscous, and tagines, offered a gastronomic journey that mirrored the nation and for our dessert lovers, it did not disappoint! The hotels and riads where we stayed each had their own unique beauty that made you want to stay forever.
Morocco, with its rich history, warm hospitality, and mesmerizing landscapes, has left an indelible mark on our hearts. We hope this glimpse into our journey has ignited your wanderlust and inspired dreams of your Moroccan adventure.
Until our next journey!
Joyously Yours,
